Apologetics Resources

The following print and electronic resources cover a wide range of apologetics topics and may prove useful in personal or group study.

Understanding The Baptist Faith & Message

Southern Baptists are a diverse bunch, with more than fourteen million members in forty-seven thousand autonomous churches. Spread across all fifty states, these churches vary in size, ethnic diversity, language, forms of worship, leadership models, and missions. They cooperate voluntarily for the sake of the gospel at the associational, state, and national levels.
Sometimes, Southern Baptists engage in historic struggles – over the issue of slavery, the inerrancy of Scripture, and the value of human life from conception to natural death. And, sometimes, they squabble over issues that have more to do with personal or tribal agendas than with the non-negotiable doctrines of the Christian faith.

Generally speaking, however, Southern Baptists stand together in their embrace of historic Christian beliefs expressed in a confessional statement called The Baptist Faith & Message. First issued in 1925, the BF&M has been modified – most notably in 1963 and again in 2000 – to more clearly express Southern Baptists’ beliefs in the unchanging nature of God and his word in the face of cultural chaos.

This short study helps Southern Baptists appreciate the value of their confessional faith, as well as grasp the simple truths of the BF&M’s eighteen articles. Designed for personal or group study, each chapter features a statement of the article, a brief commentary, and questions for further discussion.

What Every Christian Should Know About Satan

What Every Christian Should Know About Satan explores more than a dozen biblical names and titles that reveal the evil one’s character, tactics, and ultimate destiny in hell. Written for pastors and laypersons alike, this resource is designed for personal or group study.

Was Satan once an anointed cherub – God’s prime minister of the universe? When and how did he become the father of lies, tempter, accuser, and adversary? How do names like Beelzebul and Belial depict his heinous deeds? And what hope is there for followers of Jesus in knowing that god has prepared a special place for Satan and his messengers?

What Every Christian Should Know About Satan explores more than a dozen biblical names and titles that reveal the evil one’s character, tactics, and ultimate destiny in hell. Written for pastors and laypersons alike, this resource is designed for personal or group study.

Jesus Before Bethlehem

Jesus Before Bethlehem explores dozens of Old Testament appearances by a figure often called “the angel of the LORD.”

What was Jesus doing prior to his conception in Mary’s womb?

While we see the Father and the Holy Spirit actively engaged in human affairs across the pages of the Old Testament, the other member of the Trinity is foreshadowed in messianic prophecies but otherwise absent from the earth. Or is he?

Jesus Before Bethlehem explores dozens of Old Testament appearances by a figure often called “the angel of the LORD.” He not only speaks for God; he speaks as God. He appears as a man, a voice from heaven, a flame within a thorn bush, and a divine presence in a pillar of cloud and fire – all of which come to us as Christophanies, or appearances of the preincarnate Christ.

Written for pastors and laypersons alike, this study is designed to show how the eternal Son of God has always taken a personal interest in those he created to be his imagers on earth.

What Every Christian Should Know About the Trinity

What Every Christian Should Know About the Trinity explores the biblical foundation of belief in one true and living God, who exists as three distinct, but inseparable, co-equal, co-eternal persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The doctrine of the Trinity distinguishes orthodox Christianity from
counterfeit forms of the faith, and sets Christianity apart from other
monotheistic religions such as Judaism and Islam. Even so, many
Christians struggle to understand and explain this non-negotiable
doctrine.

What Every Christian Should Know About the Trinity explores
the biblical foundation of belief in one true and living God, who exists
as three distinct, but inseparable, co-equal, co-eternal persons:
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Written for pastors and laypersons alike, this book features twelve
lessons that conclude with probing questions, making this an ideal
resource for personal or group study.

The Last Apologist

The Last Apologist is a thought-provoking commentary and study guide through the book of Jude.

The Epistle of Jude may be one of the most neglected New Testament books. Bible readers are tempted – in part by its brevity and in part by its similarity to 2 Peter 2 – to skip over Jude on the way to Revelation, or to give this short epistle little more than a glance.

This is unfortunate, because Jude speaks volumes about the value of Christian apologetics.

The Last Apologist is more than a verse-by-verse commentary. Each chapter explores key words and phrases, and poses thought-provoking questions that make this a handy resource for personal or group study.

The Apologist's Tool Kit (3rd Edition)

The Apologist’s Tool Kit 3rd Edition is an easy-to-read reference that equips you to defend the Christian faith with gentleness and respect.

Followers of Jesus always have faced attacks from outside the church – from worshipers in the cult of Caesar to militant Muslims. But potentially more damaging are threats from within – from false teachers who tickle our ears (2 Tim. 4:3) to false prophets who come to us with “cleverly devised myths” (2 Peter 1:16).

The Apologist’s Tool Kit 3rd Edition equips you to defend the Christian faith with gentleness and respect. This easy-to-read reference addresses some of the most commonly challenged Christian doctrines, from the existence of God to the authority of scripture. Each chapter concludes with probing questions, talking points, and references for further reading, making this a handy resource for personal or group study.

What Every Christian Should Know About Same-Sex Attraction offers a brief overview of the Bible’s clear teachings on homosexuality, and how Christians can express Christ-like love for our LGBT friends.

Christians are in the crosshairs of today’s culture which celebrates the gay lifestyle and accuses those who stand on Biblical convictions of engaging in a new brand of McCarthyism.

We should not despair, however. This is a God-ordained opportunity for followers of Jesus to love our lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender friends, and for the church to minister to those struggling with unwanted same-sex attraction.
