Intern with people who care.

Summer Missions is a 10-week paid internship made possible through the Missouri Missions Offering (MMO) that pairs Missouri college students with a mentor in multiple realms of missions. From traditional ministry to marketplace, rural to inner city, working from a Missouri church to planting overseas, students have the opportunity to contribute and receive the best in service and training in bringing the gospel to professional fields of interest.

We have 40 open positions this year. All summer missions interns will:

  • Train and serve as small group leaders at a Super Summer camp in Missouri
  • Work within communities that put them in touch with those they want to serve

Examples of the recent experiences of our summer missions interns include:

  • Working domestically and abroad
  • Working with refugees and internationals
  • Working with special needs students in rural and/or urban communities
  • Supporting community-wide summer camp programs
  • Participating in pastoral shadowing

Our summer missions interns experience ministry and mentoring in a safe and challenging environment which encourages them to grow, ask questions, and share what God is teaching them through leadership while they continue to mature in disciple-making.

Our experience is that both student and mentor grow through this process, creating a domino effect across the state, over North America, and into the world. Internships begin with a comprehensive, multi-day training conference and end with a debriefing that helps interns create a narrative they can share with churches and campus ministries. The MBCollegiate Summer Missions program is a great way to spend a summer. Whether one is thinking of professional ministry or ministry in a professional setting, it is an incredible way to grow a resume, expand experience, and nurture one’s walk with God.

FAQs

What is the age requirement for Summer Missions?

You must be 18 years old by Summer Missions Orientation, May 27, 2026, in order to participate as a Summer Missionary.

How long does Summer Missions last?

Summer Missions is a 10-week initiative.

What mandatory events am I expected to attend or participate in as a Summer Missionary?

You are expected to attend Summer Missions Orientation, May 27 – May 29, 2026, to serve at Super Summer (student camp) for at least one week of camp, and to attend the training weekend prior to Super Summer. Super Summer dates are June 6-12, June 13-19, and June 20-26.

What will the rest of my summer calendar look like?

Aside from Orientation and Super Summer, your mentor will be responsible for working with you on developing a weekly calendar for the summer.

How many Summer Missionaries can one ministry/organization have?

Each ministry/organization may have three Summer Missionaries.

As a mentor, how many hours should I plan for my Summer Missionary to work each week?

The general expectation is around 20 hours/week so that your Summer Missionary can also be on the mission field at another job. Camp workers will typically put in more time than this. Please help them understand that expectation coming in.

Do I get paid? How much?

Yes, we pay our Summer Missionaries a total of $1500. Your June & July payments will be $600 each and your August payment will be $300.

Great, I get paid…how will I receive my paychecks?

Paychecks are direct deposited into your bank account beginning the 26th of each month. However, your deposit will not be made until we have received all of your weekly reports to date.

What is a weekly report? How will I remember to do them?

We want to know how your summer is going and the different ways you’re serving. Weekly reports collect that info for us. At the end of each week, you’ll receive an email reminder that your weekly report is due and a link where you can fill out the report.

Is there an opportunity to make any additional money?

Yes, if you attend our debrief meeting at the end of the summer, you’ll receive an additional $100 bonus.

Will I receive any reimbursement for mileage?

Yes, we reimburse your mileage to mandatory MBC Summer Missions events. We will pay you .35/mile for orientation, Super Summer, and debrief.

I’m an international student. Can I still serve as a Summer Missionary?

Yes, as long as you have a Social Security number and your Social Security card indicates that you are valid for work/employment so that we can pay you legally, you can serve as a Summer Missionary. SSNs can take some time to acquire, so if you don’t already have one, please begin working with your mentor well in advance of any Summer Missions deadlines.

I’m not able to acquire a SSN. Can I still serve?

Absolutely! Just understand that you will be serving as a volunteer and not a paid Summer Missionary.

How do I apply?

The application process will become available on this page beginning January 5th.
