MBC Messenger Information
The Missouri Baptist Convention (“MBC”) consists of Messengers from those cooperating Southern Baptist churches recognized as affiliated by the MBC. Affiliated churches must meet all of the following qualifications:
- The church must contribute to the work of the MBC through the Cooperative Program on at least an annual basis; and …
- The church has not contributed to the work of any other national convention of churches or organization that acts as a national convention, and has not sent representatives or Messengers to such a convention (any organization that independently sends and ordains ministers to the U.S. military services is considered a national convention); and …
- The church has not contributed financially to the work of any other state convention or organization that acts as a state convention in Missouri (Credential Committee Rules and Procedures, 7a-c).
Each affiliated church may send two (2) Messengers to the Annual Meeting, plus the greater of: 1) one additional Messenger for every $6,000 contributed to the MBC during the prior fiscal year through the Cooperative Program, or 2) one additional Messenger for each full percent of the affiliated church’s undesignated receipts given to the Cooperative Program during the prior reporting year.
No affiliated church may send more than twelve (12) Messengers. All Messengers must be members of their sending affiliated church (Bylaw 2: Messengers, Bylaws of the Missouri Baptist Convention). Seating of messengers is subject challenge on the floor of the convention (Article II, MBC Constitution).
Below is a chart showing the calculation used to obtain the number of messengers your church may send. Remember, you may send Messengers based on the higher of: (1) total CP giving, or (2) percent of undesignated giving to CP.

(January 1, 2017 – December 31, 2017)
NOTE: The total Cooperative Program giving amount is calculated using the monies given from January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2017. To be counted in this time frame, the funds must have been received in the MBC Business Services office by December 31, 2017. The percent of undesignated giving is calculated using the undesignated receipts reported on the 2017 ACP and the Cooperative Program giving during the corresponding reporting year (07/01/2016 to 06/30/2017). To be counted in this time frame, the funds must have been received in the MBC Business Services office by June 30, 2017. “Undesignated receipts” do not include gifts to the Lottie Moon, Annie Armstrong, or Missouri Missions Offerings, or any other gift earmarked for a specific ministry.
2019 registration instructions will be mailed to each affiliated MBC church. More information will be posted online at a later date.
There are two methods of pre-registering for the Annual Meeting: online pre-registration and mail-in pre-registration. Instructions for either pre-registration method are printed on the messenger letter mailed to each affiliated MBC church. Online pre-registration will close 10/19/2018.
If you do not wish to pre-register, report to the MBC Registration Desk with the Registration Form signed by the church moderator or clerk. The procedure generally takes longer when you do not pre-register.
To be seated as a messenger, you must stop by the MBC Registration Desk where you will receive your ballots. The Registration Desk opens at 8:00 a.m., Monday, October 22, at Crossway Baptist Church, Springfield, Mo.
If you have questions about the registration process, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call Tamara Parry at (573) 636-0400 ext. 317.
