General Information

Bible_Pen_LWhat is the Role of Sunday School?

The Sunday School ministry is the foundational strategy in a local church for leading people to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and for building on-mission Christians through open Bible study groups that engage people in evangelism, discipleship, fellowship, ministry, and worship.

What is an Open Group?

Open groups expect new people every week. That’s a short definition of an open group! If a group really does expect new people every week, it will change everything about its strategy. Leaders will arrive early. They will arrange the room with newcomers in mind. Members will consistently wear name tags. Every lesson will be a complete and satisfying Bible study experience.

What is Open Enrollment?

Belong before you believe – that’s a short definition of open enrollment. Enrolling as a member of a Sunday school class is a great first step for those undecided about becoming Christians, being baptized, joining the church, or exploring Christianity, while they experience the powerful words of the Bible. They should understand that enrolling in Sunday school neither makes them church members, nor obligates them toward membership. It’s simply a safe place to belong before they believe, whether or not they ever do.

Special Education Resources

Is your church a place where everyone can come and worship and serve the Lord? God’s word mandates that we minister to all persons, regardless of their needs. This applies to people with physical and mental disabilities as well as every other person God has created. We must provide a place for unconditional loving. All people are loved unconditionally by God. Since we are loved unconditionally how can we do less than love other in this way. Often we want to help “provide for those less fortunate” or “do something to help.” This is a humanitarian love. What we need is the Christian love that demands we give ourselves.

Pray for God’s leadership. Ask him to open your eyes to the person around you who need to be ministered to and who need to minister. Commit yourself to follow God’s leadership to provide a place for everyone to worship our Lord.
